Europe Trip 3 : Madrid, Spain

Madrid 1/2

We arrived after a very jarring night on the train. It was pretty dead at the train station, dead at the metro, and dead on the streets. We then realized that it was Sunday and there was a lot of siesta going on. We checked into our very nice 4 star hotel and then set off. The place we went to for lunch was pretty bad. I really wanted to get some Spanish paella, so we stopped by the first place that had this paella sign.

The dishes we ordered, I swear they must have been premade and frozen. The pizza was cold in the center and the paella’s rice wasn’t moist at all. Then we noticed that the billboard said “OK PAELLA” on it. When we walked along the streets, we noticed that there were identical OK PAELLA signs everywhere. It’s probably all premade and then reheated at these locations. Very lame indeed. If you guys ever go to Spain, do not eat anywhere with that sign. OK PAELLA IS NOT OK.

I decided that Madrid would be my time to chill, so I didn’t bring my massive camera along.

Madrid, the other 1/2

Well, the food got some redemption here. We decided to go to this other restaurant for dinner. I guess the rule of restaurants (eat at crowded places) really does work. We decided to go all tapas and we got some calimari, garlic shrimp in butter sauce, cheese, paella, spicy potatoes, chorizo, and this other meat thing. Man, the tapas portions were huge! Very delicious and plenty to around. Wilson ordered some sangria, and that was pretty good too.

Wilson and Ems are out right now. I decided to stay in tonight and just chill. Tomorrow morning is the train ride to Barcelona. The train was booked pretty full, so we had to go 1st class (oh darn).
