Venice 1

Spent most of the day on trains. The trains here in Italy are really confusing and SLOW. It took us around 7 hours to get to Venice. So we got here as it was nearing dusk. We looked for our hotel and then set off for dinner. Not heeding our own advice, we chose a restaurant next to the water. Food was okay, but it was really pricey. Tomorrow we choose more obscure places.
Venice 2
Today we woke up a little late and set off at around lunch time. Emily had eaten at this Chinese place in Venice before, so we decided to try it out. Both for old times’ sake and to see how Venetian Chinese food was. It was.. okay. Pretty greasy, but not terrible.

The next destination was the famous Piazza di San Marco. We bought some metro tickets (their metro here is a series of boats) and took a boat to the plaza. It was a longest boat ride, but pretty nice with the wind in our hair. The plaza was CROWDED to no end. There was also a ton of flying rats (pigeons) everywhere. We went off to the alleys where all the shops were. A lot of the stores were closed for a couple of hours, but we found that the United Colors of Benetton was open.
Their prices are actually pretty good! Not Old Navy cheap, but more like Banana Republic prices. I was thinking of picking up a few items, but with my limited backpack space, I decided against it. I will try to look for some good luggage in Rome and perhaps see if there is also a big Benetton store there.
After some time we decided to walk back to our hotel room to wash up, but we got lost and wandered aimlessly for a bit. It wasn’t a total loss as we browsed this taxidermy store with all these insects and fossils, a mask store (tons of these in Venice), and this dessert place. The tiramisu here is pretty inexpensive. Wilson and Emily got tiramisu, a cream puff, espresso, and a cappuccino for under 5 euros!

Dinner was at a place right outside our hotel room. I tried some black squid appetizer. Some advice: when you pick an appetizer, make sure it looks appetizing. The pizza Wilson ordered was pretty good too. I’m still looking forward to the lasagna with truffle sauce that Alex recommended when I get to Rome.
Ugh, a mosquito just bit me in the ear as I was writing this. @$^%*#$
