A friend of the family, who I haven’t seen in 20+ years took my family and I to a “local” (hole in the wall, but very tasty) restaurant in Taiwan. This was a “special treat” of sorts. Chinese/Taiwan people typically order Shark fin soup for very VIP guests because it is considered a delicacy and its quite expensive (I’ve heard anywhere from $50 to $100 USD per bowl). Shark fin has a rather slimy texture, it is very soft and tender. Its hard to explain the taste since it doesn’t taste like anything else I’ve had. Shark fin is sometimes is cooked until the needled-shaped cartilage loosens up, almost like noodles. In my case, it was served in big pieces. It is acquired taste, I can’t say its for everyone, but some people may actually like it. I actually find Shark Fins quite tasty, but I do find slicing off the fins of sharks and dumping them back into the water to be rather cruel. In any case, I’m not advocating that everyone should try it, but if are interested in trying it, you may be able to find it in some upscale Chinese restaurant as an “off-menu” item (if you don’t see it readily available). I have probably had this 4-5 times in my lifetime, so consider this a rather “exotic” dish if you don’t live in Asia.

It is rather unfortunate that you are contributing the global demise of the shark simply by ordering and exposing people to eat it. How do you sleep at night.
I sleep quite well actually. Thanks for asking. I call it, the circle of life. We eat them, they eat us.
