After five plus years of marriage, Mrs G-lato decided to bake me a batch of cookies (for the first time EVER). To commemorate this wonderous event, she decided to bake me any kind of cookie I wanted. I have always liked Oatmeal cookies, but I hated the roach-shaped raisins most oatmeal cookies are baked with, so the logical choice was to combine the two and go with chocolate chip oatmeal cookies.
Mrs G-lato found a chocolate chip oatmeal cookie recipe from the The Frog Commissary Cookbook and we took the list of ingredients to the store. While at the store, we come across a bag of one of my favorite candy bars…Heath. Being the Heath addict that I am, I convice Mrs G-lato to modify the recipe to include some bits and pieces of Heath toffee bars as well! Woot!
So here is the Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies from the The Frog Commissary Cookbook and our little Heath modification:
- 1 cup butter, room temperature
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tbsp milk
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 1/2 cups of rolled or quick oats
- 1 cup chocolate chip
- 1 cup of Heath (in bits n pieces)
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350F.
- Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Mix cream, butter and the sugars thoroughly in a large bowl.
- Mix in eggs one at a time then add milk and the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, stir in flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
- Beat flour in to the sugar mixture until just incorporated using a mixer in low speed.
- Stir in the oats and chocolate chips by hand.
- Drop one-inch balls of dough onto cookie sheet, allowing 1.5 inches of space for it to spread.
- Bake for 10-13 minutes, until golden brown at the edges and light golden at the center.
- Let cookies cool before moving them to wire rack to cool completely.
I did try to talk Mrs G-lato to use wheat flour to see how the cookie would taste. She declined. We were able to get a batch of around 36 cookies out of this recipe. Overall, the cookies were great. I probably munched through about five cookies before I realized I had to stop. Pour yourself a nice glass of milk and enjoy! I know I did!

We would like to feature this recipe on our blog. Please email haleyglasco@gmail.com if interested. Thanks
