Last month, a Bearded Papa opened up in Cerritos, CA. I was highly anticipating this store because the last two I visited were at last 20 miles away from my home, which made it rather difficult to satisfy my cream puff cravings. If you don’t know what Beard Papa’s is, then you are missing out!
Bearded Papa’s is basically a Japanese chain of cream puff bakeries/cafes, with their cream puffs being about 3-4 times the size as the ones you see at regular bakeries. All their menus seem to vary somewhat. For example, my first experience with the bearded one was at the Glendale Americana. They had a booth there and offered your cream puff with their traditional vanilla filling AND cookies and cream ice cream. They also offered it dipped in chocolate. My second experience was at the Puente Hill Mall, were it came with 3 different puff styles; Original, Cookie and Eclair. While my filling selections were Vanilla, Chocolate and Strawberry (flavor of the week).
Over at the Cerritos location, they had the same options, with the exception of the “flavor of the week” being Coffee. They also offered a more extensive assortment of teas, frappes and coffees to wash your cream puff down with. Unlike the other two locations, this Beard Papa’s offered a “dine-in” experience, complete with your own waiter. The menus were placed inside picture frames, which added a distinctly different style to the “take-out” versions of this store.
I personally went with the cookie puff filled with vanilla, while my wife opted for the same cookie puff, but filled with chocolate. We both also ordered a couple of drinks, which were prepared quite well.
This place isn’t cheap, the puffs cost anywhere from $2 to $3, while the drinks where around $3-$4. Tack on some tax and tip and our entire experience set us back about $16. That’s almost enough for a dozen cream puffs!
Here are some pics of what we ordered. Presented quite nicely. Please forgive the crummy iPhone camera. That’s all I had at the moment. Stay tuned for bakethekitty’s full review on Hawaii’s Beard Papa’s! (With much NICER pics!)

superr
Oh it was all the rage in Singapore a couple of years ago! I’ve never bothered to queue up to get one of those though.. not a big fan of Cream Puffs.
Post a review!
NO WAY! You don’t like Cream Puffs??!?! Awwww, but they are soo good! They’ve slowly expanded out here in California. As a matter of fact, I think I’m going to pick some up tonight!
I’ll try to get better pics of it. I know bakethekitty has a nice review of the actual puffs brewing so I didn’t want to post two reviews of the same thing. Plus she got way nicer pics that I have.
