The Original Pancake House

The Original Pancake House

Some weekends ago, Mrs G-lato and I decided to hit up one of our usual breakfast places, the Original Pancake House. As the name implies, the Original Pancake House specializes in breakfast items such as pancakes, crepes, waffles, omelettes, etc…There are so many entrees to choose from, you can easily feel overwhelmed just trying to decide which of the many styles of pancakes they have. One of the many items that caught my eye on my last visit was the Dutch Baby, which is an air filled oven-baked pancake-like dish that is served with lemon, whipped butter and powdered sugar. It is an amazing sight! That thing is HUGE! I haven’t had it yet so I can’t comment on it’s taste, but it sure impressed me the moment I saw it. I mean, it’s bigger than my face!

In any case, if you decide to pay this establishment a visit, you have to show up bright and early because this place gets PACKED! Typical Saturday/Sunday mornings get VERY busy at around 8:30-9:00am, so be sure to drop in before that if you don’t feel like waiting 30-minutes to 1-hour. They open bright and early every single day (6am), so be sure to beat the mad rush and wake up early. They have locations in most states across the US. Whether you live on the East Coast or the West coast, you should be able to find one or two in major metropolitan areas. If you live in central parts of the US, you might have a rougher time finding one, but they still have locations in states such as Texas, Colorado, Missouri and Illinois. Here is a map which contains a list of their locations across the US. Now, if you live outside of the country, you should make a mental note of this place so if you ever visit the US, you can have some good old-fashioned breakfast.

For my next visit, I will be trying the Dutch Baby due to it’s intriguing and imposing presence. Definitely a must have! Look for that review in the future. In the meantime, enjoy the following pictures!

ph-menu

Here’s a shot of their menu. As you can see, there’s a wide variety of breakfast items to choose from. I am more of a “salty-breakfast” kind of guy, so I tend to gravitate towards omelettes, corned beef hash and such. However, the crepes, pancakes and waffles really make it tough to say “no” to the sugary delights.

ph-egghash

On my first visit, I ordered some eggs, corned beef hash and some pancakes. Love the pancakes, they are so fluffy! The corned beef was nothing out of the norm, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t taste good. I love corned beef hash!

ph-eggsncakes

On my last visit, the wife and I split a stack of blueberry pancakes and scrambled eggs, ground beef and mushrooms. Quite tasty!

The Anaheim, California location, as you can see, isn’t anything fancy. It has a very old-fashion look, with wooden floors, walls, furniture, even an antique cash register! But that is what makes this place so special. It has that cozy warm feeling, like being at your grandparents house, were meal is home-cooked (at least from I see in the movies! LOL). For those who grew up having a traditional breakfast with your parents/grandparents, this is probably the next best thing.
