Every year around the 3rd weekend of September (18th, 19th, 20th), the world’s Largest Lobster Festival is held at the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro, CA. That cook so much lobster at this event, they broke the Guinness Book of Records for The Most Seafood Prepared at an Outdoor Event (3,835 lbs and one ounce in two hours and fifteen minutes). Then at 9pm September 19th, 2009, they set a new Guinness World Record of 12,527.4 lbs. Now THAT is a lot of lobsters! Admission was a measly $9 and if you go to their website, you can print out a $2 off coupon. There are games for the kids, food and souvenir vendors, concerts, scuba diving lessons, etc. Of course, the main draw is still the yummy lobsters. These lobsters were a pretty good deal too, $17 for one 2.5 lobster or $31 for two. So you basically pay around $38 for two 2.5-lbs or $24 for one 2.5-lbs lobster. Either way you slice it, its a pretty good deal for fresh Maine lobster. The event this year may be over, but it comes back every year so make your calendars!!!
