Tutti Frutti, aw rutti

Tutti Frutti, aw rutti

If you are at all familiar with the name Pinkberry or Yogurtland, then you probably know what I am about to blog about today. If you haven’t, here’s a quick explanation of what these new trendy/upscale frozen yogurt establishments are all about….You take tart frozen yogurt then you dress it up with a variety of fresh fruit, assorted candies and syrups. The end. Now, there are two ways you can savor this type of frozen yogurt. 1) You get the full-service and pay a flat price.  2) The self-service and pay by the ounce. I have been a patron for both and I find the self-serve method to be most rewarding (and expensive if you are not careful).

Tutti Frutti is cut out of the same fabric as Yogurtland, where you serve yourself and pay by the ounce. Over at Pinkberry, employees dispense the frozen yogurt and toppings of your choice (usually limited to just 2-3 toppings). I started going to Pinkberry when they had only a few locations in California and one in New York. At the time, the frozen yogurt was dispensed evenly into the cup. As Pinkberry began to grow, a began to notice a very really unsavory practice of “swirling” the frozen yogurt around the outer part of the cup, making it inside hollow. Nice way to rip you off by offering you less then jacking up the price. In contrast, you won’t experience that type of problem in places like Tutti Frutti because they are self-serve. Tutti Frutti also offers over three-times more flavors of frozen yogurt such as Strawberry Cheese Cake, Lychee and Mango; Plus they have an even greater selection of toppings to choose from. Since everything is measured by weight, you can put as many different toppings as you like (see picture above) and the price shouldn’t vary too much. Clearly the better way to go in my opinion. The only drawback on self-serve frozen yogurt is self-control. If you aren’t careful, you could easily spend $7-$8 by overloading your cup.
